He sat there for a while.
How long? Who knows.
He didn't know where Jake was. Probably off to his bedroom, sitting there and waiting for him to go back.
Or maybe not.
Maybe he never wanted to see Dirk walking toward him ever again.
But of course he did. He was sitting there, waiting, looking out over the grass.
It was getting dark.
Where was he? The animals would be out soon.
Jake knew Dirk could handle himself, yeah, but…
What if he got hurt? Dirk was a rough and tumble sort of boy! But still. Why did he have to worry about him, it wasn't the thing to do if he had confidence in him, but he couldn't help.
He saw a shine through the trees and sighed, knowing it was probably his dumb robot looking for someone to fight with outside.
Jake couldn't tell if he was going to be back or not. Should he go off and look for him? What if Dirk didn't want to see him…?
Ah, golly. What was he to do?
Sighing, Jake jumped off his bed and headed outside into the cool air, the sky a bright orange, sunset was starting and moving fast, too. Dusk was a time when most of the dangerous things would be out; but, then again, so would the Tinkerbulls. Jake brought one of his handguns, just in case. He kept it safety locked just in case he came across Dirk or a Tinkerbull and tried to shoot, even though it was always his first reaction to try and turn the safety off when coming across something. Maybe it'd help.
He walked for a while and then started to wonder if Dirk was still sitting back when Jake had walked away from him; that was the first place he looked.
Dirk wasn't there. He felt something on his head and touched it, it was water. He looked up and saw clouds blocking the orange sky, turning it a sickly, unhappy grayish purple.
He sighed. He'd just get wet if he stayed out here in the rain; Dirk knew how to take care of himself.
But he had to find him. Why did he have to? It was just something he couldn't deny, he had to find the kid, maybe dry him off and kick him into his own bed while Jake slept on the floor, it was the least he could do, right?
He rolled his eyes and set off, trying to avoid the heavy raindrops falling, and any animals out in the forest. In the darkness he almost tripped over quite a few pumpkins grown from runners that fled into the woods.
He wasn't sure where to look. Where would he go if it was raining? Dirk was a smart boy.
He found himself in the clearing he and Dirk had been wrestling in earlier and walked past, toward the gazebo in the hazy distance.
"Sup, Di-Stri?" Jake called, nervously, and Dirk turned around.
It was hard to see him until Jake ran through the clearing the rest of the way just as the rain started coming down harder, finally making it to the gazebo's protective roof and panting, giving Dirk a playful wink… Even though he knew it was a bad time.
Dirk shrugged.
"Don't see much rain. Rain's all cool, you know. 'S kinda cold out here but… whatever." Dirk seemed to shake everything off, and it made Jake a little mad.
"You know, Strider." he said suddenly and Dirk gave him a nudge, resting his elbows on the railing, getting his hair wet from the dripping rain. Jake shut up, knowing Dirk didn't want to talk.
They sat there for a while and waited for the rain to go away. Despite the weather Tinkerbulls were tumbling around in large groups and didn't even seem to notice the two humans, playfully nudging each other and things, white fur turning gray and faint green with grass and water, but staying playful all the same.
Eventually it was Jake's turn.
He put his hand on Dirk's awkwardly and grasped in gently, wrapping his own fingers into the other teen's.
Dirk tried his best to ignore him, not grabbing his hand back, but Jake sort of understood.
"Getting dark isn't it. Maybe you and I should venture through the rain back to my bedroom, eh?" Jake asked, smiling a little, hesitantly.
Dirk gave his hand a gentle squeeze and took it away. "I guess."
Dirk began to walk off and Jake jogged to keep up with him.
"Golly Strider, it's quite the downpour, isn't it? Doesn't rain like this every day that's for sure, and to think the weather was so magnificent earlier!" Jake said loudly above the pounding sheets of rain, his hands over his head to shield his hair and his face. Dirk didn't seem to take notice of his voice or of the rain, he simply walked.
After a moment of Jake rambling awkwardly, Dirk stopped, turned around, and handed Jake the coat he'd taken off earlier and gave him a rain-drenched hug to tell him it was okay. He didn't mind the silence. He was okay with Jake just being there; and most of all, shut up.
Jake bit the inside of his cheek and put his head down.
Dirk gave Jake a pat on the head and Jake dramatically pretended to fall backwards, Dirk catching his hand and both of them chuckled a little. Then Jake got a strange glint in his eye and pulled Dirk into the wet grass on top of him, both of them falling to the ground.
Jake laughed, but before he knew it, Dirk was pinning him to the ground, and Jake was struggling to get free, the rain pelting both of them so hard they were pretty much blind, but they were still able to wrestle, not knowing where the other was except for the places they touched, both soaking wet and yelling, the sun slowly going away behind the clouds.
When Jake finally pulled Dirk off of him they both sat, listening to the rain in the dark, Jake's hand on his gun. Dirk grabbed his hand.
"Dude, don't worry about nothing. I got it all under control." He was panting.
The rain had let up and now it was just dripping from the leaves overhead.
"Let's go back, okay?" Jake asked quietly.
Dirk sighed, "Okay. Yeah."
Dirk stood and reached out in the dark, and Jake took his hand, being yanked to his feet. Dirk looked him up and down.
"Let's go get cleaned up."
The last chapter~
Bluh bluh bluh, i felt really out of character.
But whatever.

In my mind, that last wrestling match was more of an... apology, just to say, hey, s'all cool.
